Texas Toast Griddle Burgers – I love grilled cheese, and when I bought a loaf of Texas toast to make French toast, I immediately knew it would make an amazing grilled cheese–burger hybrid. Before long I had thin hamburger patties sizzling on the griddle and a quick burger sauce mixed up. It was an excellent solo lunch—rich, buttery, and totally satisfying.

How to Make Texas Toast Griddle Burgers
These Texas Toast griddle burgers are simple to prepare and hit that craving for a burger-meets-grilled-cheese sandwich. The key is shaping the patties very thin so they cook quickly and get a nice crust. I portion the beef with an ice cream scoop—about 1/3 cup each—then press them thin before cooking.

Don’t skip buttering the Texas toast; that golden, crisped buttered side is part of what makes these special. If you prefer a lettuce wrap, this recipe isn’t for you—these are all about the buttery toasted bread.

Cook the patties on a hot griddle or large skillet until they are done to your liking—about 3 minutes per side for thin patties. Add a slice of American cheese near the end so it melts over the patty.

Top the burgers with your favorite fixings. I like a simple burger sauce of mayonnaise, ketchup, and sweet pickle relish, plus lettuce and tomato. American cheese is classic and melts beautifully between the burger and toast.

This makes a hearty, decadent lunch—quick to make and impossible not to enjoy. Happy Friday!
